Tea Tree Oil Treatment: Dandruff

Dandruff is caused by a fungus called Malassezia globosa. The fungus penetrates the upper layer of the scalp and causes irritation. This irritation causes the flaky skin and itching that we know as dandruff.

Tea tree oil has the ability to fight off fungal infections, including dandruff. It is a natural alternative to the traditional dandruff shampoos on the market which are usually loaded with chemicals. Studies show that people with mild to moderate cases of dandruff using a 5% solution of tea tree oil in shampoo saw significant improvement within four weeks. If you purchase a tea tree oil dandruff shampoo, be sure that it contains at least 5% tea tree oil to ensure that it will be effective in fighting off your dandruff.

iHerb sells Jason Tea Tree Scalp Normalizing Shampoo – a very effective, natural, tea tree oil dandruff shampoo. I use it myself and can vouch for it’s effectiveness. Why use all of those harsh chemicals in traditional dandruff shampoos when you have a safe, natural alternative in tea tree oil? This shampoo works perfectly and you won’t be compromising your health. They also sell a conditioner to use with it, but I found that my hair did better with just the shampoo and no conditioner at all. If you want to try other brands, iHerb has many to choose from. The Jason brand is the one that worked for me, but you might find that another brand works better for you.

There are natural tea tree oil dandruff shampoos on the market, but you can also make your own with the tea tree oil shampoo recipe below. iHerb sells many different brands of tea tree oil, including organic tea tree oil, and other natural products at really good prices.
